I'm Internet Slacking

I'm playing a couple of Diplomacy games via email, and I'm slacking. I have a blog, and I'm slacking. I have a bunch of unanswered email, yep, I'm slacking.

I've been sick, and the babies have been sick, and we're all just too tired for me to worry too much about getting things done on the computer. It's hard to motivate myself to work on the computer when I have so much else to do, and not enough energy for it all.

So, instead of offering you something worthwhile of my own, I'll give you a nice link. The Onion (a very funny online mock news service), has a great podcast, with each little story only about one minute long. It's great, and quite funny. http://www.theonion.com/content/index - It's over on the right.

Henry's A Champion!

At 8 months old, Henry Lee made it all the way up our 8 stairs. He's my hero.

Coffeeshop Kitty

Yesterday Marion, Henry, and I went to the downtown Ypsilanti library, and after we were done Marion said that she didn't want to go back into the car, so we walked around for a little while. We made our way around the block (Marion lead the way), and when we got back to the car Marion still didn't want to go for a drive, so we went to a coffeeshop instead. Henry had fallen asleep in the sling, and we needed a place to warm up.

We stopped into Bombadill's on Michigan Ave, and got a hot chocolate. Marion was a big fan of the whipped cream on top, and started licking it off like a kitty. She looked up at me with a big glob of cream on her nose and meowed.

I caught a video of it on my phone, but I wasn't able to get her to do the kitty licking again.

Blog Slowing

It's really hard to keep on posting without a camera. So much of what I want to post about works so much better with pictures. We don't have the cash to purchase a new camera right now, so we're on hold in this department. We have plans to borrow one from a friend, so hopefully that'll get things moving again.

Cat + Henry = Sleep

Henry had a strange encounter with Kira (our cat) this evening. Kira is fond of licking hair, and she took to grooming Henry. Normally, this is pretty painful, as Kira has a rough tongue, but Henry is either tougher than me, or Kira was gentler than normal, because Henry seemed to find it soothing.

In fact, he fell asleep.

Evidence of weirdness:

Open House #1

Our house is beautiful, and it was yesterday for our first open house. As it turns out, we only had one person show up, but we feel pretty good about it anyway, because we had an impromptu party after the open house. Joe and Lora (from cohousing) stopped by with their three kids, and then Pam (our buyer's agent for our current house) and Pete stopped by to see the house and babies. Then Dyan and Terri came back with Marion and Henry, and we all had a good time talking about real estate and other such things.

It was nice to have everyone there right after the open house, as it could have been a rather depressing time. If we were alone after the open house, we probably would have felt pretty bad about showing the house to just one person, but having a group of friends there right away really made it fun.

So, we move on from open house #1. We do the things that Pam suggested, and we work to find a buyer. Our house has only been on the market for a week or so, and there's no reason to think that we're not still going to sell it quickly. We're in good shape, the house looks great, and as soon as -the- buyer comes along, we'll have our sale.

Until then, Marion & Henry and I are going to be out of the house as much as possible. If you live around the area, and would like a visit from two cuties and their dad, let me know.

The Loser So Far

Burger King's terrible 'Women are pieces of meat, and cheese, and lettuce' ad is by far the worst ad that I caught during the SuperBowl. This blatantly sexist ad suggests that these women are here to be eaten and they'll do whatever you say, they'll let you "have it your way".

Boo, I say, boo to the 'King'.

House Showing

We're showing our house for the first time today, leading up to the open house this sunday. It's pretty exciting. We've done a lot of work to get things ready, and we hope that this translates into multiple offers.

I wish I had a camera. Stinking camera.

SuperBowl Report

It was a fine game, with the Steelers winning 21-10. I didn't get to watch as much of it as I'd hoped because a dad's job never ends, but I did get to watch most of the 4th quarter.

I think I'm becoming more empathetic, as I expect is common with parents, because I almost cried at the end of the game. Not because I was sad that the season was over, and I'd have to wait many long months to watch football again, but because I felt some of the joy and relief that the Steeler's coach, Bill Cowher, was feeling. He was proud of his team, happy that they won, and feeling great. I could feel some of that too, even though I don't know the guy at all.

And I think to myself that it's strange to cry at the end of a football game, unless you're on that winning team. I don't think I've ever seen anyone else cry when they were just watching a game. So, huh...I guess that's weird.

He seemed so happy though. I was happy for him. And sad for all of the Seattle players. They'd worked so hard to get there, and they lost. They might never get another chance.

That Was Short Lived

It appears that the pirate pictures were the last pictures that our Olympus C-700 would ever take. Only a few days after we dropped $60 on a new memory card, the camera went belly up. It no longer turns on.

We're sad to see it go, both because it'll take money to replace it, and because we've had it for a long time and it's become part of our family.
